Innio Waukesha Gas Engines has announced that it has been selected to receive $2.2 million in funding from the US Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA).

The funding is part of the ARPA-E Reducing Emissions of Methane Every Day of the Year (REMEDY) programme, which aims to reduce emissions in the oil, gas and coal industries through innovation and manufacturing technologies.

“The Department of Energy investments in Marquette University and INNIO Waukesha Gas Engines will bolster Wisconsin’s cutting-edge research and technological innovation capabilities to create good paying jobs in the clean energy economy,” said US Senator Tammy Baldwin.

The REMEDY funding will be used in two stages over three years. Stage 1 will focus on lab-based testing of new piston types to confirm operation and technical proposals, while Stage 2 will scale testing, ideally including field testing.

The new technology will look to meet the REMEDY goal of 99.5% methane destruction.

Bud Hittie, president of INNIO Waukesha, commented: “We look forward to aggressively moving forward with our engine research and development to continue delivering technology for a cleaner energy future.”

The money is part of a $35 million package which will be shared across 12 different companies developing technologies intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the noted industries.
