Carrier Transicold starts phased production of eCool unit

Carrier Transicold has started initial production of its all-new Syberia eCool temperature control unit.
Compatible with most trucks with an electric powertrain, the new system develops zero direct engine emissions and ultra-low noise operation. These features are said to make the unit ideal for all-electric urban deliveries.
First unveiled at IAA Transportation 2022, the Syberia eCool is available in limited quantities for both single and multi-temperature configurations.
The system combines a front-mounted Carrier Transicold Syberia 14 refrigeration unit. It is currently undergoing further field tests using the company’s power box. The box converts high-voltage current taken from the vehicle powertrain into the 400 V AC current required to drive the unit.
The units are said to not ‘significantly’ affect vehicle range or refrigeration performance.
“We set ourselves the challenge to develop an easy-to-install, all-electric solution that delivers low-energy consumption without losing efficiency,” said Scott Dargan, MD, UK and Northern Europe at Carrier Transicold. “The Syberia eCool is that product. It underlines our ability to meet the challenges of urban electric distribution, providing an efficient and cost-effective answer to the ever-growing interest among our customer base for operating fully electric trucks.”
The all-electric architecture of the Syberia unit means the eCool version offers plug-and-play installation, when combined with the power box. It is reported to deliver 95% efficiency between drivetrain power and the refrigeration system.
The system is currently undergoing further company testing, with wider availability is expected in 2024.
