Clean Logistics SE premiered the fyuriant hydrogen-powered zero-emission truck to the public at Stade airfield in the German state of Lower Saxony. The production model truck is powered by dual 120 kW PRISMA fuel cell systems designed and manufactured by Shanghai Refire Technology Ltd. (Refire). The launch follows Clean Logistics’ summer 2021 introduction of the pyuron, reported to be Europe’s first similarly retrofitted bus.

At the event, Dirk Graszt, CEO of Clean Logistics, stated: “We are very excited to present our fyuriant today. Our buses and trucks have met with a high response in the industry. This is because we are now already able to make zero-emission vehicles available to the market. Refire is a major partner of Clean Logistics, and as a key component of our products, their highly innovative and efficient PRISMA fuel cell system has enabled us to succeed.”

According to the press statement, the partnership between the two companies has shown the viability of replacing traditional diesel powertrains in existing vehicles with fuel cell systems and electric motors as a means to fast-track decarbonizing commercial transport. It describes the new truck as “an immediate, clean alternative to diesel.”

The project has received funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport as part of the implementation of the German Government’s Mobility and Fuel Strategy (MFS). Germany has a target to reach 30% zero emissions in trucking by 2030.

The fyuriant is able to carry up to 43 kg of compressed hydrogen for a range of more than 400 km (roughly 250 miles), and can be refueled in less than 15 minutes. Electricity generated by the fuel cell systems is delivered to wheel hub electric motors that provide a maximum torque of 17000 Nm (12,539 ft.-lb.).

To demonstrate its power and acceleration, the new truck competed in a series of six drag races, held on the Stade airfield runway, against a diesel truck with an identical chassis. According to Clean Logistics, the vehicle reached the finish line first in each race, including when fully loaded with a typical freight box attached.

“It’s a privilege to see fyuriant make its debut today and illustrate to the world just how competitive it is in driving performance,” Audrey Ma, Vice President Business Development, Refire, commented. “We are sincerely grateful to have been selected as Clean Logistics’ product of choice and partner of choice, and we are looking forward to continuing to enable their success in European zero-emissions commercial vehicle markets.”

Due to positive response, Clean Logistics is gearing up for increasing demand for its hydrogen-powered vehicles with a new 10000 sq. meter production workshop at its Winsen (Luhe) facility. The company expects to deliver up to 450 vehicles per year from Q4 2023 onwards.
