Daimler Truck subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp. (MFTBC) has unveiled the next generation model of the Fuso eCanter all-electric light-duty truck. The next generation model will be launched with a substantially expanded vehicle lineup.

The new eCanter will feature the eAxle, which integrates the motor with the rear axle, allowing for a more compact drivetrain structure. These structural changes enable a significant expansion of the product lineup, Fuso noted, with more than 100 variants to be offered globally, including 28 variants to meet the wider range of logistics needs in the Japanese domestic market.

In addition to the current 7.5-ton GVW model, offerings will be available in weight classes from 4.25 to 8.55 tons, plus the range of wheelbases now extends from 2500 up to 4750 mm. A new wide cab option (1995 mm) has been added, as well.

A modular battery concept provides for three battery pack options based on the wheelbase. Vehicles equipped with a single 41.3 kWh battery will have a range up to 70 km per charge, while those with two batteries can cover up to 140 km and those with three batteries will have a range up to 200 km.

The eCanter will come equipped with a power take-off (PTO) unit to enable special-purpose solutions for customers wishing to utilize a tipper, rear crane, climate-controlled van body or other options.

The complete vehicle lineup, specifications and features may vary from market to market.

The Next Generation eCanter is scheduled to begin sales in the Japanese market in Spring 2023, with launches of the new vehicle in overseas markets in the coming years. Following its world premiere in Japan, the European premiere will take place at the IAA Transportation 2022 from September 20 to 25 in Hanover, Germany.
