H2Accelerate, a consortium of companies which are together targeting the advancement of hydrogen across a series of business sectors related to commercial vehicles, has released a new white paper which sets out expectations for the ‘first phase’ of deployment.

This includes the roll out of hydrogen refuelling stations through 2027, while also looking at anticipated advances across other elements of the related support network, such as hydrogen production and the maintenance for deployed hydrogen-fuel vehicles.

Specifically, the paper covers R&D and Deployment timeline (extending through 2035), hydrogen fuel cell truck deployment and plans for hydrogen refuelling stations. Other topics include plans for production of green hydrogen supplies in Europe.

Publication of the paper follows the announcement that H2Accelerate members have arranged €30 million in funding from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership for the deployment of 150 fuel cell trucks. Funding has also been received from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for a further eight hydrogen refuelling stations. CEF is a funding programme operated by the European Commission to promote sustainable networks through interconnected transport, energy and digital services. This will bring the total number of refuelling locations operated by H2Accelerate members to 29.

H2Accelerate is comprised of the following companies: Daimler Truck, Iveco Group, Volvo Group, Linde, Shell and TotalEnergies. The members are working to develop the ‘evidence base’ and public funding programmes to support a commercially-viable long-haul hydrogen trucking system across Europe.

More details included in the white paper are available at the H2Accelerate website (Click here).

In November 2021, DPI reported that Daimler Truck and TotalEnergies had agreed to respectively develop hydrogen vehicles and support systems to promote hydrogen as a fuel for transcontinental trucking operations. The GenH2 truck from Daimler is set for a launch in 2027. For its part, TotalEnergies outlined plans to install up to 150 hydrogen refuelling sites across Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France by 2030. (Click here for article)

To review the state of hydrogen as a fuel, with a focus on hydrogen internal combustion, the Diesel Progress Summit, to be held in Louisville, Kentucky, in September, will include a roundtable session with representatives from Cummins, JCB and Liebherr. (https://dieselprogresssummit.com/)
