Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Passes Altoona Testing

By Mike Osenga08 May 2018

The Axess FC brand bus from ElDorado National (ENC) has completed the 12 year / 500,000 mile life cycle Altoona testing of a hydrogen fuel cell transit bus mandated by the Federal Transportation Authority.  The testing is designed to ensure the availability of safe vehicles for transit.  ENC is part of the REV Group.

ENC said its Axess FC low-floor transit bus successfully completed durability, fuel economy and performance testing on its 100% 304 grade stainless-steel vehicle. The company said the bus has the ability to refuel within 20 minutes and a proven transit duty cycle range of over 200 miles.

The Axess FC bus uses proven BAE System’s Series Hybrid technology, currently available on more than 8,000 buses worldwide. Combining battery-electric with hydrogen fuel makes this one of the most environmentally friendly vehicles–where the only emissions coming from the tail pipe is water, the company claimed.
