Integrated Electric Axle Partnership Announced

AxleTech International, Troy, Mich. has announced a partnership with TM4, Boucherville, Québec to develop integrated electric axles (e-axles) for heavy-duty vehicles. Target applications include city and transit bus, medium duty and on-highway trucks, and off-highway vehicles.
AxleTech will have sales responsibility and TM4 will assist with bringing in new leads from its various customer bases. The first products are scheduled for the third quarter of 2018.
As part of AxleTech’s Electric Drivetrain Systems product line, the company is developing e-axles with patent-pending multiple-speed gearboxes that are designed to be integrated with electric motors. Specifically, the 24,250 lb e4000 series and e5000 series axles.
TM4 brings expertise as a manufacturer of electric motors, controllers, and inverters. The company’s adapted electric powertrain is designed to integrate into AxleTech’s heavy-duty planetary axles.

The integrated system provides optimal packaging and operating efficiency to a range of on- and off-highway vehicles, AxleTech aims to bring these new electric axles to the market soon.
