Marine Hybrid Transmission

By Roberta Prandi18 October 2019

ZF Marine presented at the Monaco Yacht Show last September the new ZF 5200 A PTI: the first hybrid-capable down angle marine transmission with power take-in (PTI) and a wide range of transmission ratios.

This transmission is also available in a V-drive configuration. An integrated shaft brake is available as an option too, to improve the ship’s maneuverability and crash-stop behaviour. The ZF 5200 A PTI has a compact design and is constructed with a modular approach.

ZF Marine has a quite wide portfolio of hybrid transmissions with a power range from 600 to 11 500 kW. By integrating a PTI, ZF can make conventional transmissions connect to a hybrid system and to electric motors. For hybrid propulsion, ZF supplies complete systems with flexible couplings, electric pumps, inverters and electric control units.

For the power range up to 300 kW, ZF also offers CeTrax, an in-house developed electric motor.
