Renault Trucks makes gains in Euro EV market share

Renault Trucks has reported its results for 2022, which show that the OEM light-, medium- and heavy-goods vehicle manufacturer completed 58,967 deliveries over the 12-month period, a year-on-year increase of 15%.
The increase gives the OEM a European market share of 9.4% in the over-16 tonne segment (+ 0.6%). In the home market of France, this share increased to 29.4%.
Renault Trucks has also established itself as a player in the electric mobility market. Across Europe in 2022, the company achieved a 24.2% share in the electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDV) market. In France, the company’s MHDV market share reached 75%.
This is supported by the start of production of medium-duty electric trucks at the Renault Trucks plant in Balinville-sur-Orne, which has now passed the ‘symbolic’ mark of 1000 units. The company has also opened assembly of Kleuster cargo bikes at its Lyon site. With a 650 kg max cargo, these are intended for last-mile distribution.
Looking at specific models, the company invoiced 268 e-Tech Master electric light commercials in 2022.
Commercial EV fleet buyers included XPO (100 units), the City of Barcelona (73), Coca-Cola (30) and Sepur, which has purchased 18 Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide for household waste collection in the 13th arrondissement in Paris.
Electric models manufactured by Renault Trucks are said to have collectively travelled a total of four million kilometres, saving 3200 tonnes of CO2.
The EV introductions will continue over 2023. By the end of the year, Renault Trucks is expected to start production of the electric heavy-duty E-Tech T and E-Tech C at the Bourg-en-Bresse plant. The vehicles are respectively intended for regional goods distribution and construction.
With these and other new electric vehicle introductions, Renault Trucks has a targeted making 50% of its sales all-electric by 2030. By 2040, the OEM plans to only sell trucks which are 100% fossil free.
