Scania launches new high-capacity biofuel fuel tanks

Scania has expanded its offering of tanks and related equipment for its gas-powered trucks. The OEM states that a range of up to 1400 km is now possible for liquid biogas (LBG) tractor combinations (750 km for compressed biogas, or CBG).

CBG tanks can be racked behind the cab to make the most of that space. LBG tanks can be located across the frame, allowing for the addition of such hardware as Hendrickson support axles in A6x2/2 pusher configurations (UK).

“Increasing the potential tank capacity for different applications takes out what used to be an Achilles heel in the eyes of some prospective customers,” said Stefan Dorski, senior vice president, and head of Scania Trucks. “Our expanded offer, increased flexibility of the chassis layout and the many new gas filling stations spells a bright future for gas-minded customers. And their range anxieties can now finally be put to rest.”

The new tank options improve fuel-carrying capacity and longer ranges, but also open up new opportunities to use fuels such as biomethane. The fuel can reduce CO2 output by up to 90% (wheel to wheel).

Gas-powered trucks are a cornerstone to Scania’s science-based targets strategy, covering the company’s commitment to reducing the CO2 emissions from its products by 20% overall between 2015 and 2025.

The new tanks and equipment were premiered at the recent Transpotec trade show, held at the Fiera Milano, Italy. The new hardware will be launched over the remainder of 2022.
