The company said it will offer the Powrbank battery systems from manufacturer POWR2, which were specifically designed for United Rentals.

Designed to be used with temporary diesel generators, the Powrbank units comprise lithium batteries and inverters.

They store excess energy created by the onsite generators and include load-sensing technology, which allows the generator to shut off so that it only runs when needed. As a result, this means noise and CO2 emissions is also reduced, along with fuel waste.

United Rental’s Powrbank systems will provide power outputs ranging from 40 to 60kW, with between 60 and 120kW hours of storage.

David Scott, senior vice president of specialty operations at United Rentals, said, “POWR2 is the type of sustainability partner we look for — innovative and willing to invest the time in understanding the unique demands of equipment rental.

“Hybrid power is a particular focus of ours as we explore adding more low- and zero-emission equipment to our rental fleet. Our introductions of reduced emission worksite solutions help our customers meet their own sustainability objectives.”

Adding the more environmentally friendly units to its fleet is part of the company’s plan to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030.

Doling, Director of POWR2 said, “We’re proud to work closely with United Rentals in providing a custom solution that fits their fleet operations and sustainability goals, and importantly, the needs of their customers. United Rentals’ industry-leading scale will ensure that their investment in emissions reduction will have a widespread impact.”
