Wiggins Yard eBull For Port of Stockton

By Chad Elmore01 October 2018

SSA Pacific said it is committed to deploying the recently announced zero-emissions Wiggins Yard eBull electric forklift for its operations at the Port of Stockton facility in California. The company is working with dealer XL Lifts Inc.

“We are excited to work with our dealer XL Lifts to bring this exciting innovation to market,” said Wiggins’ Director of Sales Micah McDowell, Oxnard, Calif. “With the Yard eBull, companies no longer need to choose between high-performance and energy-efficiency.”

The effort is part of SSA Marine’s mission to explore, evaluate and recommend energy alternatives to reduce greenhouse gas emission and differentiate the ports and communities the company serves.

“We are constantly evaluating our operations for opportunities to reduce emissions and we knew this technology was something that our team needed to be a part of,” said Joe Carrillo, SSA Pacific regional vice president of Northern California. The company is a subsidiary of SSA Marine. “We started by deploying two 33,000 lb. Tier 4 final forklifts, which was a step in the right direction, but we wanted to do more.”

With capacity from 30,000 to 70,000 lb., the Yard eBull uses a fast-charging lithium ion battery pack designed by Thor Trucks specifically for commercial vehicle applications. The machine offers high-performance and energy efficiency in a large capacity forklift, said Wiggins.

“Forklifts are one of the many practical applications of fully-electric powertrains,” said Giordano Sordoni, COO, Thor Trucks, Los Angeles, Calif. “The vehicles stay close to their home base and have access to industrial power, plus the noise reduction and increased efficiency will benefit industrial yards tremendously.”

The new machines have an information center that uses the Parker IQAN system to keep the operator informed about forklift performance.

“Wiggins has a history of innovative firsts and the new Wiggins Yard eBull is another example of why Wiggins is the leading provider of forklifts for marinas and will soon be in the industrial sector, as well,” said Mike Marzahl, president of XL Lifts. “I am thrilled to be a part of the SSA Pacific green forklift initiative and look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with them.”
