Caetano Bus and Temsa have joined forces to develop a hydrogen fuel cell-powered coach that, according to the related information, should deliver unprecedented comfort, autonomy and flexibility.

Portugal-based Caetano has already secured sales of its urban hydrogen bus in various European countries, including Germany, France, Spain and Denmark.

For its part, Temsa has produced more than 130,000 vehicles which have been delivered across nearly 70 different countries worldwide. The company already has a presence in the electric coach segment, but is now looking to expand its zero-emissions portfolio.

Using fuel cells supplied by Toyota Motor, the hydrogen-electric coaches are set to have a series of user-friendly features. These include the capability to refuel at either 350 or 700 bar pressure, which should allow the vehicle to refill at any available hydrogen outlet.

The coach will have a range of up to 1000 km on a single refill, dependent on operation and weather conditions.

The first coach model, which is expected to be available in 2024, will be a two-axle model based on the electric version of the Temsa HD12. A three-axle variant is expected shortly afterwards.

Caetano Bus and Temsa will both be exhibiting at the upcoming Busworld trade show, being held in Brussels, Belgium from 7 – 12 Oct. Find out more in our Busworld 2023 preview.
