FPT Industrial’s CursorX: the engine of the future is not an engine

By Roberta Prandi23 November 2018

“CursorX is FPT’s Industrial vision on how power sources will be in 2030,” said Annalisa Stupenengo, FPT Industrial’s brand president.

CursorX is a multi-power integrated unit designed for multiple applications, that can combine clean diesel, natural gas, electric, and hydrogen fuel cells.

Pierpaolo Biffali, FPT Product Engineering, explained that in a truck application, the battery/electric configuration will allow 200 km autonomy. This raises to 400 km in the electric/natural gas hybrid option. And up to 800 km range with 200-kW hydrogen fuel cells.

“The concept is designed to be installed in a vehicle with cabin, but also in driverless cabin-free machinery of the future. It does not need a hood or cover anymore, but becomes a structural part of the vehicle or stationary installation,” commented David Wilkie, from CNH Industrial Design Center.
