UK-based biomethane supplier and distributor Gasrec has reported the highest demand for the fuel in company history.

The record high was recorded in June this year. The numbers marked a 250% increase over those posted in March 2020, a previous peak attributed to the COVID pandemic.

The company further added that pending orders for new gas-powered trucks are likely to push demand even higher.

James Westcott, chief operating officer at Gasrec, said: “Fleets are under pressure from customers to decarbonise and bio-LNG (liquified natural gas) is the most viable, readily-available solution – plus it’s suitable for longer-haul missions, with quick refuelling times.”

Westcott added that demand for biomethane is being supported by prices which are ‘significantly cheaper’ than diesel. Which helps to improve operational sustainability and save money.

Gasrec has opened three new refuelling sites since the start of the year, in Lutterworth, Fradley Park and South Elmsall. This brings the total number of facilities in the UK to 16, with a three further locations set to be opened before the end of the year.
