Innovative Fuel Systems (IFS), a tech company based in Edmonton, Canada which specialises in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has entered into an agreement with Certarus for the purchase and installation of the company’s Multi Fuel Technology Platform (MFTP) across the company’s heavy-duty vehicle fleet in the US and Canada.

The MFTP installations are capable of supporting up to a 55% substitution of diesel fuel with compressed natural gas. This will assist Certarus in its ongoing efforts to transition to lower-carbon fuels and reduce related emissions.

This could achieve an 11.5% reduction in CO2 emissions and a 45% cut in NOx output.

According to the report, Certarus selected the MFTP solution after performance trials demonstrated the ability of the tech to meet operational requirements.

Certarus is a provider of low-carbon energy, delivering the fuels to energy, utility, agricultural and industrial customers not connected to a related delivery pipeline.

The IFS system delivers a ‘substantive substitution of diesel fuel in Class 8 heavy-duty diesel engines with lower cost, cleaner burning CNG’. The company states that the system can also support renewable natural gas and hydrogen as fuel.
