Perkins to display new marine engine

Perkins announced in mid-September that it will be launching two new auxiliary engines for use on inland waterways, tugs, governmental, fishing and ferry services. It plans to feature one of the new models, the 4.4 L E44 four-cylinder engine, on its stand at the Marine Equipment Trade Show in Amsterdam, Nov. 15-17.

The E44 is rated 95 to 145 bhp (71 bkW to 108 bkW) at 1,500 rpm or up to 173 bhp (129 bkW) at 1,800 rpm. The larger, more powerful E70B is rated 146 to 218 bhp (109 to 163 bhp) at 1,500-rpm fixed speed; 171 to 289 bhp (128 to 216 bkW) at 1,800-rpm fixed speed; and 173 to 249 bhp (129 to 186 bhp) at 2,400-rpm variable speed.

The E70B meets IMO II, U.S. EPA T3 and EU V emissions standards on ratings below 130 bkW, while the E44 meets U.S. EPA T3 and EU V, falling below the minimum requirement for IMO certification. Both platforms are available with full MCS approval on request.

In targeting end users such as generator set packagers and hybrid propulsion packers in the workboat, inland waterways, tug and large yacht/superyacht sector, Perkins is offering a choice of cooling options depending on the application, repower and ease of integration.

With space onboard at a premium, the electronic engines offer a compact design and simple installation with easy plug and play features for a complete turnkey solution. They also offer easy access to service points and factory configuration is available.

The engines come with a 500-hour service interval and with such low-maintenance features as a self-priming fuel system, no zinc anodes, automatic valve lash adjustment and self-tensioning belts.
