XCMG shares ambitious plans to drive innovation and development

XCMG has launched an ambitious new project called “Pilot, Ascend” in support of its goal of internationalisation.

Included in the strategy is the creation of manufacturing clusters to promote innovation and create production synergies.

The Chinese OEM said internationalisation will be achieved through seven key actions covering issues such as product development, low carbon technologies and digitalisation.

Yang Dongsheng, Chairman of XCMG, said; “Internationalization is the road XCMG must take to navigate through industry cycles and build a world-class enterprise to stand the test of time.

“We aim to elevate our competitive advantages in terms of scale, product, channel development, service, and digital platform to fully support our main internationalization strategy, which fully commits to localisation, service-oriented, business compliance, and global IT.”

XCMG’s action plan covers seven areas: product development, component manufacturing, digital transformation, new power technologies, export growth, after sales service and talent development.

As part of this, in June it started construction work on a new component production plant, which will be managed by subsidiary company XCMG Precision. This, said the OEM, will strengthen its supply chain.

The OEM said it will develop more net zero products and technologies to add to its range of existing low emission machines. For example, in early July it delivered 100 electric wheeled loaders to a mining customer in Henan Province, China, and has developed a 6 tonne loader powered by hydrogen, which has been in operation at a mine in Shanxi Province since March.

XCMG said digital transformation was “the key engine to power technological revolution and industrial evolution as well as strategy to achieve high-quality development.” It gave as an example the work of XCMG Hydraulics in developing domestic production of hydraulic valves for its XZ series of horizontal directional drilling rigs.

Product development, or ‘technology resilience’ as XCMG called it, is another plank of its action plan. The company cited two recent “advanced” products. The first is the XCA2600, described as the world’s largest capacity all-terrain crane, which recently completed its first wind turbine installation project in Northeastern China, installing a 127 tonne turbine with a maximum height of 126 metres.

Second is a fleet of unmanned XDE240 mining dump trucks working with electric excavators, bulldozers and graders at Shenyan Coal’s Xiwan open-pit mine In Shaanxi Province.

XCMG said the action plans “cover the full breadth of strategic transformation [and] are key for XCMG to achieve sustainable development and a leading position in the construction machinery industry.”
